This in-depth, 3-week tour of the Royal Rajasthan with Taj will give you not only a greater understanding of the richness of India’s Moghul heritage but you will experience what makes this ‘royal’ state one of India’s most visited regions. Including such well known cities as Delhi, Updaipur, Jaipur and Agra, home to the Taj Mahal, we will show you some of its lesser known gems such as Bikaner and Jaisalmer, just to name a few. One of the highlights will surely be spending time watching for Royal Bengal Tigers in Ranthambhore National Park as well as staying at a former noble Rajasthani family’s palatial home in Rohet. Today we drive towards the desert surrounding Jaisalmer (330 km/6 hrs) and on the way there are opportunities to make optional stops at the Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kolayat Temple and Ramdevra Temple near Pokhran. On arrival in Jaisalmer, known as the Golden City, the rest of the day is at leisure.

Spend the morning on a guided city tour which will include a walk through the winding streets of its massive hill-top Golden Fort, then visiting the Manek Chowk and some of Jaisalmer’s exquisite and richly carved Havelis. In the late afternoon enjoy a camel ride out in the sand dunes to watch a desert sunset.
Today we travel by road from Jaisalmer to Rohet, and en route stop in Jodhpur, the Rajasthan’s second largest city. Often called the Blue City, we’ll visit Jodhpur’s great Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and a local market. Later, on arrival in nearby Rohet, you will spend the night in a unique heritage hotel, once home to the local noble family.

Spend an exciting day on a jeep safari visiting some Bishnoi villages. In the surrounding countryside we may also see some local wildlife such as blackbucks and blue bulls as well as have time to explore these fascinating small, tribal settlements. Return to Rohet for another night at the wonderful and atmospheric hotel.
Our 2-hour morning drive brings us to Narlai (approx 95 km) and from here we will tour the beautiful and sacred Jain temples at Ranakpur, nestled deep in the surrounding Aravali hills. Afterwards, you are free to explore Narlai village on your own or just relax at the hotel. Overnight at your selected hotel
The drive this morning brings us to Udaipur (125 km/3 hrs), known as the ”Venice of the East” and considered the most beautiful and romantic city of the Rajasthan. Later in the day enjoy a tranquil boat ride on Lake Pichhola, passing by floating palaces and admiring the shoreline’s exquisite architecture.

The day starts with a guided city tour of the City Palace with the option of seeing the Crystal Gallery before visiting the Saheliyon ki Bari Gardens with its lotus ponds and fountains and Jagdish Temple. This afternoon we take a short drive outside the city to visit the ancient temples of Eklingji & Nagda.
Spend the day driving to Jaipur (370 km/6-7 hrs) along the national highway. Called the Pink City, Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and later today experience the hustle and bustle of two of its wonderful markets, the famous Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar.

This morning we take a short drive through the nearby Aravali Hills to visit the stunning Amber Fort with the option of entering the fort on an elephant. In the afternoon we visit the beautiful City Palace, the ancient observatory, Jantar Mantar as well as Hawa Mahal known as the Palace of the Winds. While in Jaipur, there is the option of taking a Hot Air Balloon ride.
Setting off from Jaipur we head for Ranthambore National Park (160 km/3½ hrs). After check in at your hotel, enjoy an afternoon jeep or canter safari tour through this exciting park known as being one of the best places to see Royal Bengal tigers in the wild.

Over the next 2 days, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives through the park. Besides being a tiger sanctuary, Ranthambhore is also home to many other species of mammals such as the Common Langur, Rhesus Macaque, leopard, jackal, jungle cat, wild boar, sloth bears, nilgai, spotted deer and Sambhar deer. It is also a birdwatchers paradise. As well, you might like to take an optional visit to Ranthambhore Fort after one of the morning safaris.
During today’s drive to Agra (280 km/5½-6 hrs) we stop to see Akbar’s abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. There is also the option of visiting the world famous Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary at Bharatpur (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). On arrival in Agra, the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Our early start this morning lets you appreciate the Taj Mahal’s unique beauty at sunrise followed by enough time to learn about and enjoy this spectacular building (the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays). In the afternoon, we visit the fascinating Agra Fort followed by a short tour of the exquisite Itmad-Ud-Daulah, also called the ’Baby Taj’. For a grand finale, watch the sun set over the Taj Mahal from the Mehtab Bagh gardens across the Yamuna River.
